 Evolution Island Series

Grauls’ Evolution Island series stems from a residency on a renowned Hiroshima archipelago. Inspired by the haunting remnants of an abandoned hotel, she delved into the islands’ unique histories, translating their complexities into abstracted visual languages. Her use of early British Admiralty naval surveys (1932) as a source material positions the viewer as an outsider peering into intricate historical layers.

Based on her experiences at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art, Grauls’ practice continues to evolve, shaping a distinctive visual vocabulary. This project is made possible through the generous support of the David Michie family.

We will be launching our fourth Bleet! zine conjured by the spectacular Sally O’Reilly who will also be joining the festivities by performing on the night. Alongside Sally, Mermaid Chunky will be wreaking wonderful havoc from the DJ booth, plus tantalising performances, readings and music galore from Dolly Kershaw, JP Guerrier & Susan Atwill, Ava Grauls, Patrick Clarke, & our clown adjacent host for the evening Lola.

Expect tongue twisting morsels, bizarre tales from the bard and juicy tunes. Not to mention the official launch of Sally’s riso printed zine: all ready for you to get your grubby little paws on.

Three graduates of London's Royal College of Art will present a collective exhibition in Japan on the theme of "boundary" using paintings and sculpture installations.

Artists with different backgrounds, Ava Grauls (Belgium/South Africa), Makiko Shimizu Harris (Japan/US), and Megumi Ohata (Japan/Korea), cross the land and through the cultural experience of living in their own skin, It explores the theme of the boundary between macro and micro.

A shared interest in creative activity surrounding immigration issues has led the artist collective to the 'Edge' exhibition in Hiroshima. These artists aim to bring as an artistic expression what it means to live within and without boundaries in terms of our bodies and territories.
